Wet Beacons and Log Fires

We drove up past Pen y Fan towards Brecon and beyond, in the mist and driving rain, and entered the Felin Fach Griffin.   This is an extremely busy restaurant with a welcoming log fire.

The establishment was clean, staff professional and menu interesting.  We had friends as guests so were able to sample a number of different dishes.  Our starters were exceedingly good.

Cured trout

The dates, walnuts and goats cheese however stole the show.

Enjoyed with an excellent bottle of Muscadet.  However, our main courses were disappointing.  It seems that the presentation was becoming more important than flavour.  The fish was good, but the beef bourguignon too salty and lacking the customary red wine flavour.  My lamb looked better than it tasted.

And the beetroot risotto lacked umph !

On a positive it was nice to see dessert wines offered with the puddings.  I have visited this Inn before and really enjoyed.  But today it was more of the old story "of taking people back to somewhere you like and being disappointed".  With a long drive home to look forward to.
