The Square in Trujillo is vast giving you plenty of room to view the statue of Francisco Pizarro, the conqueror of Peru.
Pizarro was born here, as were many of the tiny band who with such extraordinary cruelty aided him in defeating the Incas.
The history of his legend is gruesome and rumour is this town is going to be used for a location shoot on the next Game of Thrones season.
On the Terrace is the restaurant "Meson La Troya", that we had targeted for dinner. Trujillo do very little in the way of tapas, but this restaurant is truly authentic and ticked all my boxes.
You should google their menu, as like most true Spanish Establishments the food translation if invariably way off, and great fun to read leaving you with anticipation and a little concerned. The set menu is outstanding and including wine very reasonable. The red wine that came, tasted truly of the scorched earth of Extremadura.
My second starter was a plate of giant green beans, very fresh and seasonal. Far too big a portion for me to finish. I had already asked about the venison and been told "it was good" and when it arrived as my main course, it was. The strange thing is, that in their food culture you have the meat on its own, and thats ok, but truthfully I would loved to have had the green beans with the venison together. The restaurant may not look much from the outside, but is a true rustic find.
